File types vary depending on how the graphics were created and what they are being used for.
All graphics will be one of two types, RASTER or VECTOR.
A raster graphic comprises of pixels (tiny dots). If the graphic has a small amount of pixels, it will look blurry when scaled up.
In the case of logos, a raster graphic cannot be edited. Colours and appearance cannot be changed.
File types that contain raster graphics are BMP, JPG, PSD, PNG
A vector graphic consists of anchor points and lines that can be modified. They can be scaled up and down with no loss of quality.
These files are necessary for signage print and production. They will have a defined outline which can then be machine cut for 3D signage, decals and heaps more.
File types that contain vector graphics are SVG, AI, EPS
And then there are PDF file types. For the most part, they will usually contain vector graphics. But sometimes, a PDF is just a file conversion from a raster graphic and is unusable for signage.
